INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs, announced Thursday that they have added a pair of rookies to their 2017-18 roster, signing defenseman Jack Burton and forward Darby Llewellyn. Burton rejoins the Fuel after a brief stint in Indy during the 2016-17 season, while Llewellyn looks to make his professional debut after skating with the Ontario Hockey League's (OHL) Kitchener Rangers last year.
Burton, 24, appeared in four games with the Fuel last season on a tryout basis, making his professional debut on March 18 against the Kalamazoo Wings. The 6-foot-3, 209-pound defenseman is entering his first full pro season after a four-year career at Colby College (NCAA Div. III). In 85 total games with the Mules, Burton registered 52 points (18g, 34a) and 76 penalty minutes. Prior to going to school, the native of Baltimore, Md. spent two seasons with the Boston Jr. Bandits in the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL).
Llewellyn, 21, spent five seasons in Kitchener, serving as the club's alternate captain from 2015-17. The 6-foot, 190-pound forward compiled 171 points (95g, 76a) over 301 career OHL contests, including a junior career-high 43 points (23g, 20a) in 2016-17. Hailing from Ann Arbor, Mich., Llewellyn is a product of the Detroit club hockey landscape, playing two years in the Belle Tire Bantam AAA program before joining the Honeybaked U16 program in 2011-12.
With the new signings, the Fuel have a total of 17 players under contract for 2017-18 - consisting of ten forwards and seven defensemen. View the entire roster by clicking here.
