INDIANAPOLIS - The National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks announced Wednesday that they have reassigned forward Nathan Noel from the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs to the ECHL's Indy Fuel. Additionally, the IceHogs also reassigned defenseman Robin Press to Indy. The Fuel begin a two-game series in Moline, Ill. against the Quad City Mallards Saturday night.
Noel, 20, has yet to appear in game action with the IceHogs, and is looking to make his professional debut this weekend with the Fuel. The 5-foot-11, 174-pound forward from St. John's, Newfoundland spent the last four seasons with the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), where he collected 208 points (85g, 123a) in 242 total games, helping his team to a trip to the Memorial Cup in 2016-17. A fourth round selection of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft (No. 113 overall), Noel represented Canada in the 2014-15 IIHF U18 World Junior Championship, winning a Bronze Medal.
Press, 22, marked three assists in seven contests with the Fuel so far this season, and has collected two goals and 11 assists in 37 ECHL games with the Fuel dating back to the 2016-17 season. The 6-foot-3, 209-pound defenseman from Uppsala, Sweden has also seen action in two games with Rockford this season, recording three shots on goal.
The Fuel also announced Wednesday that they have released forward Will Smith from his ECHL contract. Indy returns to Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Tuesday, Nov. 14 to take on the Toledo Walleye in the first test of a six game homestand.
