INDIANAPOLIS --- Returning to home ice after a two weeks absence, the Indy Fuel bowed to the Wheeling Nailers, 5-1, Saturday night at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
Making only their second home appearance of the season, the Fuel were overtaken by the Nailers special teams as the victors connected on two power play goals as well as a shorthanded strike, producing all 5 of their goals by the 2:55 mark of the second period.
Indy starting goaltender Collin Delia was replaced by rookie Etienne Marcoux at that juncture of the contest with Marcoux turning aside all 16- Wheeling shots. Left wing Tommy Olczyk delivered the Fuel's only goal at the 3:24 mark of the second period after the Nailers had established a commanding 5-0 advantage. Olczyk's goal was his third of the season, matching Alex Wideman, Nick Bligh and Matt Rupert for the team's top total.
Fuel leading scorer Cam Reid had his season-opening 7-games' point streak; 7(2-6-8), halted as the Fuel saw their season record slip to 8(2-4-2) totaling 6-points. Indy is 2(1-1-0) through two dates at home.
Next up for the Fuel will be a 3:05 pm Sunday matinee affair when they play host to the Western Conference Central Division leading Toledo Walleye, the reigning Brabham Cup Regular Season Champions, on Family Fun Day at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
