Fuel make roster moves

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs, announced Thursday a series of roster moves ahead of a pair of games this weekend at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The Fuel have signed forward Stephen Collins and defenseman Riley Sweeney, while releasing goaltender Alex Sakellaropoulos. Additionally, defenseman Troy Vance has been moved to the team's injured reserve.

Collins, 26, made his professional debut with the South Carolina Stingrays on Nov. 5, recording two shots in a 3-1 victory over the Jacksonville IceMen. The 6-foot-0, 190-pound forward attended training camp with both the NHL's Washington Capitals and AHL's Hershey Bears this fall, before signing with South Carolina. A native of Rochester, N.Y., Collins is coming off a four-year collegiate career with SUNY-Geneseo (Div. III), where he tallied 137 points (59g, 78a) in 114 career games. The USHL product was named a First-Team All-American last season, finishing third in the nation as a senior with 48 points (19g, 29a) in 27 games.

Sweeney, 25, collected two assists in six games with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits so far this season. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound blueliner is a graduate of Michigan Tech University, where he recorded four goals and 34 assists in 157 games from 2011-2015. Hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, Sweeney makes his professional debut in 2017-18 after taking a two-year break from his playing career, serving as the Assistant Coach and Conditioning Coach for the British Columbia Hockey League's (BCHL) Surrey Eagles in 2016-17.
