PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL announced Tuesday that Indy Fuel goaltender Matt Tomkins has been named the CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Dec. 4-10, 2017.
Tomkins, 23, let the Fuel to a pair of victories over the weekend against division-leading clubs, posting a 1.50 goals against average and a .967 save percentage. In his first game action since returning from a lower-body injury, the rookie from Sherwood Park, Alberta stopped a career-high 48 shots in Friday's 3-2 win over Wheeling, following it up Saturday with 40 saves during Indy's 7-1 victory over Wichita. Overall this season, Tomkins holds a 3-0-0 record in four appearances, alongside a 1.45 goals against average and a .962 save percentage.
Prior to turning pro, Tomkins finished a four-year collegiate career at Ohio State University. The seventh-round selection of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft (No. 199 overall) compiled a 28-26-7 record in 67 career NCAA games for the Buckeyes, along with three shutouts, a 3.03 goals against average and a .898 save percentage.
The Fuel begin a stretch of four games in five games Tuesday night when they visit the Wheeling Nailers at WesBanco Arena. Indy returns to Indiana Farmers Coliseum for a pair of home dates this week; hosting Quad City on Thursday and Fort Wayne Saturday.
