INDIANAPOLIS - The National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks announced Wednesday that they have reassigned forward Matheson Iacopelli (YA-koh-peh-lee) from the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs to the ECHL's Indy Fuel.
Iacopelli, 23, has appeared in 40 games this season with the IceHogs, logging nine goals and eight assists, alongside a plus-6 rating. The 6-foot-3, 206-pound rookie winger made his AHL debut last spring during an eight game stint in Rockford, scoring his first professional goal in his first game on March 31, 2017.
The third round selection of the Blackhawks in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft (No. 83 overall), Iacopelli spent the last two seasons at Western Michigan University. The native of Brownstown, Mich. led the Broncos in point scoring in 2016-17, tallying 20 goals and 16 assists in 40 games. Prior to his college career, Iacopelli was a standout with the USHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks from 2013-15, tallying 101 points (64g, 37a) in 114 total USHL games.
The Fuel continue a five-game homestand this weekend as they host the Quad City Mallards for a tripleheader at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The Central Division rivals drop the puck at 7:05 p.m. ET on Thursday, before meeting Friday and Saturday at 7:35 p.m. ET.
