ECHL announces new divisional alignment for 2018-19 season

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL announced a new divisional alignment for the 2018-19 season Tuesday afternoon. The Indy Fuel will remain in the league's Central Division, where they will compete with the Cincinnati Cyclones, Fort Wayne Komets, Kalamazoo Wings, Toledo Walleye and the Wheeling Nailers.

Wheeling joins the Central after spending the last five seasons in the North Division, while the Kansas City Mavericks have been reassigned to the Mountain Division.

The new divisional alignment was one of several changes set in motion by the ECHL's Board of Governors Tuesday, including the approval of a new team in St. John's, Newfoundland set to begin play in 2018-19. The league also announced that the Quad City Mallards have withdrawn their membership, effective as of the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

The Fuel continue their push for a Kelly Cup Playoff berth this Friday as they travel to U.S. Bank Arena to take on the Cincinnati Cyclones, before returning to Indiana Farmers Coliseum Saturday to host the Toledo Walleye.
