Indy falls 6-5 in overtime against Brampton Beast

Brampton, Ontario - Johnny McInnis (19g) struck first at the 14:07 mark in the first period against the Brampton Beast Sunday afternoon at the Powerade Centre. Only a little over one minute later in play, Brampton's Luc Blain (8g) answered quickly to commence a series of goal scoring for both teams that would last for the duration of the game. Both teams headed into their locker rooms after the first period knotted at a score of 1-1.

Brandon Marino (19g) kicked the second period off with a quick goal at the 2:43 mark to give Brampton a 2-1 lead. Not to be unanswered, Darian Dziurzynski (24g) netted his first of two in the game, assisted by Michael Neal. Tied back up at 2-2, play moved rapidly as Brampton's Jackson Leef (5g) and Scott Jacklin (10g) nabbed goals within just three minutes of each other, putting Indy at a two-goal deficit heading into the third period.

Coming into the final round of regulation play, Mathew Thompson, an Adrian College product, began the Fuel rally in the third period by scoring his first professional goal, assisted by defenseman Jack Burton. Around only 30 seconds later, Brandon Anselmini set up Dziurzynski to sneak his second goal of the night by Brampton netminder, Marcus Hogberg.

Keeping up with the Indy rally, defenseman Robin Press (10g) was taken down during a breakaway that resulted in a penalty shot where he calmly tucked the puck away, giving the Fuel the upper hand with a 5-4 hockey game.

The game excelled as both goaltenders sprawled left and right to stop shots, but it was only a matter of time until Luc Blain broke through the Fuel line the second time of the night to bring the score back to a knotted 5-5 game with only 30 seconds left in regulation play. The two clubs then headed into overtime, bracing for three-on-three play. Both goaltenders prepared to be tested as Matt Tomkins had 40 saves along with Marcus Hogberg at 32 saves on the afternoon.

Beast forward, Erik Bradford (16g), answered the tie-breaking call at only the one-minute mark, ending the game with a 5-6 Brampton Victory over Indy.

The Fuel will be back at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum this weekend as they take on the Kansas City Mavericks on Friday, March 30, followed by their Hoosier State rivals, the Fort Wayne Komets, on Saturday, March 31 at 7:35 pm ET.
