PRINCETON, N.J. - Indy Fuel defenseman Robin Press has been named the CCM/ECHL Player of the Month for February 2018. Press becomes the first Fuel player in franchise history to win the award, and is the first defenseman to receive the ECHL's top monthly honor since Chris St. Croix of the Columbia Inferno did in February of 2003.
Press, 23, helped the Fuel climb back into playoff contention with an 8-6-0 record in February, finishing the month with five goals, 11 assists, four power play goals and a +7 rating in 14 games played. The native of Uppsala, Sweden found the scoresheet in 12 of his 14 appearances over the month, logging three multi-point performances - including three assists in Indy's 4-3 loss to Toledo on Tuesday.
Overall this season, Press leads all Indy defenseman and ranks fifth in team scoring with 30 points (9g, 21a) in 36 games. The third year pro leads all Fuel skaters with 14 power play points and a +8 rating, and enters the weekend on a franchise-long nine-game point streak. In 66 career games with Indy dating back to 2016-17, Press has 40 points (11g, 29a), ranking second among all-time club defenseman.
A seventh round selection of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft (No. 211 overall), Press is under contract with the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs, seeing action in seven AHL games this season. The defenseman spent parts of the last two seasons with Djurgårdens IF of the Swedish Elite League, registering one goal and three assists in 62 games.
The Fuel continue their playoff push tonight with a critical road match-up with the Cincinnati Cyclones, before returning to Indiana Farmers Coliseum for a back-to-back set with the Utah Grizzlies, beginning Saturday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
