INDIANAPOLIS - The American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs announced Monday that they have reassigned defenseman Josh McArdle to the ECHL's Indy Fuel. In a separate transaction, the Fuel have released defenseman Garrett Schmitz.
McArdle, 24, has seen action in 26 games for the Fuel this season, posting one goal, three assists and 21 penalty minutes. In 36 total ECHL contests with Indy and Worcester, the rookie blueliner has picked up one goal and five assists. Making his return to Indianapolis after his recall to Rockford on Jan. 3, McArdle has one goal and two assists in 13 games with the IceHogs this season. The product of Brown University recorded his first AHL goal against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Feb. 6, after tallying assists in back-to-back games on Jan. 25 and 26.
After playing five straight games on the road, the Fuel return to Indiana Farmers Coliseum this week for a pair of meetings with the Wichita Thunder, beginning Tuesday with the club's annual Education Day Game.
