INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks and the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs, announced Friday that rookie forward Mathew Thompson was selected as the Fuel's 2018-19 Community Service Award Winner, presented by PNC Bank.
In his first full season in Indianapolis, Thompson was a regular fixture in the Fuel's outreach work around Central Indiana. The 25-year-old made several appearances to local elementary schools throughout the season, both as part of the club's partnership with the CBS4 Reads program and as part of the Junior Achievement Sports Day in February. Additionally, Thompson joined his teammates in assisting youth hockey players through the Junior Fuel Hockey Club.
Each year all ECHL member teams nominate a player for the league's annual Community Service Award, which is announced each April along with the ECHL's year-end award winners. The 2018-19 recipient of the ECHL Community Service Award is James Henry of the Adirondack Thunder.
The Fuel are proud to have teamed up with PNC Bank this season in recognition of the great work Fuel players have put in around Indianapolis this season.
