THE MATCHUP: After opening up 2019 preseason with a 3-1 win over the Cyclones, both teams travel to U.S. Bank Arena to play the second half of the home-and-home matchup. Coming off of Friday night's win, Indy will look to head into the 2019-20 regular season with a 2-0 record in the preseason.
LAST TIME OUT: Friday night's matchup was the first matchup between the two teams since March of last season where Cyclones defeated the Fuel 4-3 in regulation at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Indy flipped the switch against Cincinnati in Friday night's matchup. An offensive third period and strong goaltending from Charles Williams gave Indy the 3-1 win over the Cyclones.
NEW FACES: Several new faces made their presence known throughout the first preseason matchup. All three goals came from players who were wearing the Fuel sweater for the first time on Friday night. Spencer Watson opened the scoring on Friday night with a wrist shot that beat Sean Romeo over the shoulder and new faces Graham Knott and Karl El-Mir both earned goals to seal Indy's win on Friday night.
SPECIAL TEAMS WORKOUT: Not only did fans get their first look at the 2019-20 Indy Fuel but both teams' power play and penalty kills were on full display throughout the night. Indy showed their puck movement and offensive firepower on a 5-on-3 power play chance but was unable to convert. In the same period, Indy's penalty kill was on full display, killing off a Cincinnati 5-on-3. Although the power play was unsuccessful on Friday, Indy's penalty kill finished 4/4.
OPENING WEEKEND: Indy opens the 2019-20 regular season on the road against the Wichita Thunder and the Kansas City Mavericks. The Fuel are 2-3 on opening nights since becoming a franchise in 2014-15. Wichita hosted Indy to start the 2017-18 season, handing the Fuel two losses to start the season. The last time Indy met Kansas City, the team won the game 4-3 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. After two more away games against the Wheeling Nailers at WesBanco Arena, the Fuel will play their first home game on October 25th and 26th against the Cincinnati Cyclones.
