Indy Visits Wheeling for First Road Game of the Season

LAST TIME OUT

The last time the two teams faced one another, the Fuel hosted the Nailers in early March. After back to back goals from Craig Wyszomirski and Michael Doherty, Indy would take a 2-1 lead into the locker room after the first period. With Tim Soderlund scoring two goals and earning two assists, the Fuel would build on their lead, taking home a 6-2 win over the Nailers.

COMEBACK KINGS

Hosting the Kansas City Mavericks on Friday night, the Fuel came back from a one-goal deficit three times, eventually earning a shootout win in a long-awaited opening night. Scoring with 9.7 seconds remaining in the game, Derek Barach would hit the post in overtime and the teams would head to overtime. Indy’s Peter Krieger would be the only player to score in the shootout and Dan Bakala held off all of Kansas City’s shootout attempts earning the first win of the season.

HOW BROLL ROLLS

Tallying a goal and an assist on Friday night, David Broll finished the night with a plus-2 rating. Scoring the first goal of the Fuel 2020-21 season, Broll tapped in a back-door pass from Mike Lee. The veteran forward assisted Derek Barach’s game-tying goal in the final seconds of the game and closed out Friday’s game with the team lead in points.

ROAD WARRIORS

The Fuel will head to Wheeling on Saturday looking to earn two more points. With a road record of 13-15-1-0 during the 2019-20 season, Indy expects to change their fortunes on Saturday night. With four out of the next five games against the Nailers, Indy will become very familiar with an opponent that they struggled against last season.
