After falling to the Wheeling Nailers on Thursday night, the Fuel will be looking to kick off 2021 with their sixth in seven games. Picking up their first win of the year on Thursday, Wheeling enters Indiana Farmers Coliseum hunting for their first opportunity at back to back wins.

Closing out the calendar year with their fourth game against the Wheeling Nailers, the Fuel were looking to continue their five-game winning streak. Indy would see goals from Antoine Waked, Nic Pierog and Derek Barach but it would not be enough as Wheeling’s Patrick Watling would pick up two goals on the night and lead the Nailers to a 4-3 win.

Scoring on the man-advantage twice on Thursday night, the Fuel sits in third in the league in power-play percentage (18.5%). Heading into Saturday night, Indy’s special teams has power-play goals in back to back games as well as a shorthanded overtime winner from Peter Krieger on December 26th. Sitting in third place in the league in power-play percentage, the Fuel will face a Wheeling team that has killed off 24 out of their 29 penalties this season.

With back to back games with two assists, Jared Thomas takes over as the Fuel’s points leader heading into Saturday night. The third-year forward has only registered one goal through six games but has picked up five helpers to keep him at a point-per-game pace. Earning three assists on the man advantage this season, Thomas leads the Fuel in power-play points.
