INDIANAPOLIS – The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs announced Sunday that defenseman Alec McCrea has been signed to a pro-tryout agreement with the American Hockey League’s Rochester Americans.
McCrea, 26, signed with the Fuel in late January after splitting the 2019-20 season with the ECHL’s Toledo Wallye and AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins. Skating in eight games for the Fuel this season, the 6-foot-3, 207-pound defenseman tallied two assists and eight penalty minutes. Through 28 AHL games with the Griffins during the 2019-20 season, McCrea earned five assists and 15 penalty minutes.
Prior to turning pro with Grand Rapids, the second-year pro played four seasons at Cornell University, appearing in 137 NCAA contests, registering 12 goals, 37 assists and 62 penalty minutes. During the 2017-18 year, McCrea earned five goals and seven assists in 32 games helping the team to the 2017-18 ECAC Regular Season Championship as well as earning NCAA (ECAC) Best Defensive Defenseman.
