INDIANAPOLIS – The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs announced Saturday that they have acquired forward Diego Cuglietta from the Utah Grizzlies in exchange for the rights to defenseman Connor McDonald.
Cuglietta, 25, comes to the Circle City after skating in 12 games with the Utah Grizzlies. The native of Kamloops, British Columbia has registered two goals, nine assists and a plus-3 rating through 12 ECHL games this season. Splitting his time with the Texas Stars and Utah Grizzlies last season, Cuglietta registered one goal, three assists and six penalty minutes in 23 AHL games.
Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-10, 176-pound forward played four years at Lake Superior State University. Skating in a total of 147 NCAA games, Cuglietta tallied 50 goals, 50 assists and 77 penalty minutes with the Lakers. During his senior year, Cuglietta led the NCAA in goals, registering 25 in 38 total games. Before his collegiate career, Cuglietta played three seasons for the BCHL’s Merritt Centennials where he earned 40 goals and 88 assists in 149 games.
