LAST TIME OUT
In the second half of a home and home series, the Indy Fuel hosted the Wheeling Nailers in a Sunday afternoon matchup at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Indy would take a 3-1 lead into the locker room after the second period only for Wheeling to tie the game with two goals in the third period and eventually take the 4-3 win in overtime.
TRIPLE THREAT
In the first night as a line, Nick Hutchison, Peter Krieger and Mathew Thompson registered a combined total of six points on Saturday. Picking up three points of his own on Saturday, Peter Krieger assisted goals for both Hutchison and Thompson as well as picking up a goal of his own. In his second game since being assigned to the Fuel Mat Thompson earned a goal and assisted on both Krieger and Hutchison’s goal.
SPECIAL TEAM WOES
Although failing to score on two separate 5-on-3 chances in Friday night’s game against Rapid City, the Fuel turned their fortunes around on Saturday and scored on back-to-back power plays in the third period. When asked about the change in special teams, Head Coach Doug Christiansen was impressed with the fight for loose pucks. “That was by far our best retrieval all year. That’s guys wanting to get it, wanting to get it back, and wanting to try again. When you get that, you get more opportunities, more zone time and you push a team and instead of them bending we were able to break them and get a couple of goals.” Indy enters Wednesday with the league’s third-best power play, scoring on 18.7% of their chances.
