CINCINNATI - The Indy Fuel fell to the Cincinnati Cyclones 6-2 on Friday night. This was the fifth of 13 matchups between the two teams during the 2021-22 season.
The Fuel outshot the Cyclones 16-10 throughout the first and were awarded four of the period’s seven total power play opportunities but were unable to get anything past Cincy goaltender Sean Bonar. The Cyclones’ Jack Van Boekel and Yushiroh Hirano both scored equal strength goals and Lukas Craggs notched a power play goal to end the first period 3-0.
It didn’t take long into the second for the Cyclones to give themselves some insurance with an equal strength goal from Johnny Coughlin. Each team was given four power play chances throughout the period, although neither were able to convert.
A little over three minutes into the third period, the Cyclones had a two-man advantage after the Fuel’s Riley McKay was given four minutes for roughing and Cedric Lacroix was given two for high-sticking. Cincy’s Dajon Mingo made the score 5-0 with a power play goal, but less than a minute later Brent Gates finally got the Fuel on the board. Cincinnati would solidify their lead with a Kyle Thacker goal late in the third. However with just seven seconds left in the game, Indy’s Spencer Watson knocked in a power play goal to give the game a final score of 6-2, Cincinnati.
