Playing their first game of the week, the Fuel visited the Wheeling Nailers on Wednesday, November 24. Despite five power-play chances and outshooting Wheeling 35 to 23, the Fuel fell to the Nailers 5-1 in the pair’s third matchup of the season.
FIGHTING BACK
After losing four straight games, the Fuel have turned their fortunes around with back-to-back wins on Wednesday and Friday. In both of their wins, Indy has tallied four goals.
THOMAS’ TOUCH CONTINUES
Jared Thomas enters Sunday afternoon on a six-game point streak. Assisting on Indy’s third goal on Wednesday as well as scoring two goals on Saturday, Thomas has three goals and five assists in his last six contests. The fourth-year pro has played in 13 games this season totaling three goals and six assists.
MAN-ADVANTAGE
Scoring on two out of their three power-play chances on Saturday night, the Fuel continued their hot streak on the man advantage. Entering Sunday’s contest against Wheeling, Indy has scored on four out of their last seven chances on the man advantage. Through their first 17 games this season, the Fuel have scored on 19 percent of their power plays.
GREAT GILLY
Stopping 36 shots faced on Saturday night Mitch Gillam earned his second shutout of the season. Through 17 games this season, Fuel goaltenders have totaled three shutouts this season, putting them two behind the franchise record for shutouts in a season.
