Indy is riding high with three straight wins while Iowa has won three out of their last four contests, all of them coming on the road.

LAST TIME OUT
Playing their third game in three days, the Indy Fuel hosted the Iowa Heartlanders on Sunday, January 16. After being down 1-0 for the majority of the game, Indy would tie the game when Craig Wyszomirski fed CJ Eick a cross-ice pass and he buried it with 7:40 remaining. Iowa would respond and eventually earn the win after Jake Smith fired a shot from the goal line and beat Thomas Sigouin to make the score 2-1 and hand Indy their first loss of the new year.
NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION
Since January 1st, the Indy Fuel have gone on to earn an 8-1 record. On top of their eight wins, they’ve outscored their opponents 35-18 through their last nine games. Indy is currently averaging 3.50 goals per game, putting them in 5th in the ECHL in that category.
CHASING HISTORY
Scoring Indy’s first goal of the game on Saturday night, Spencer Watson tied Matt Rupert for 2nd place on the Fuel’s all-time goals list. In his third full season with the Fuel, Watson has scored a total of 62 goals in 132 games, putting him 18 behind Josh Shalla for 1st place. With three points on the weekend, Watson also put himself in third place on the Fuel’s all-time points list with 115 points.
BRILLIANT BACKSTOPPERS
Indy was able to pick up their three wins this weekend due to excellent goaltending from Mitch Gillam and Michael Lackey. Earning his 9th win of the season on Saturday night, Mitch Gillam has registered wins in his last seven starts. Playing in his first game since returning from the AHL, Lackey earned his second win of the season stopping 25 of 28 shots from the Wings.
MARVELOUS MANDAT
Scoring two goals in Sunday’s win over the Kalamazoo Wings, Jan Mandat has tallied six goals and one assist in his last five games. Playing alongside Seamus Malone and Liam Folkes over the weekend, the trio has combined for four goals and seven assists in three games.
