Playing their third game in three days, the Indy Fuel hosted the Iowa Heartlanders on Sunday, January 16. After being down 1-0 for the majority of the game, Indy would tie the game when Craig Wyszomirski fed CJ Eick a cross-ice pass and he buried it with 7:40 remaining. Iowa would respond and eventually earn the win after Jake Smith fired a shot from the goal line and beat Thomas Sigouin to make the score 2-1 and hand Indy their first loss of the new year.
