Fuel Face the Solar Bears in Second Half of Two-Game Series

After giving up eight goals last Saturday, the Indy Fuel took advantage of a week off before they traveled to Orlando for a two-game series. A third-period explosion handed the Fuel a 4-1 win in the first matchup. The Solar Bears enter Saturday night looking to get back on the winning track Saturday after losing three out of their last four games.

LAST TIME OUT

In the first half of back-to-back games, the Fuel traveled to Orlando for a Friday night contest. After only one combined goal in the first two periods, the Fuel exploded in the third period with goals from Brycen Martin, Jan Mandat and Jared Thomas while eventually earning a 4-1 win on Friday night. 

MASSIVE MALONE

Tallying two points on Friday night, Seamus Malone has three goals and one in his last games. With a goal on February 9th, the Naperville, Illinois native snapped a six game scoreless streak. Malone has continuously climbed the Fuel points standings having tallied 13 goals and 19 assists in 44 games. 

HAPPY KAPPY

Starting his first game for the Fuel on Friday, Justin Kapelmaster earned his fourth win of the 2021-22 season. Stopping 17 of 18 shots from the Solar Bears, Kapelmaster earned a .944 save percentage, putting his season totals at 2.96 goals against and a .904 save percentage. 

DON’T DOUBT DARIEN

With an assist on Friday night, Darien Craighead has three goals and one assist in his last five games. Since joining the Fuel via a trade with the Norfolk Admirals, Craighead’s offensive game has exploded. His 23 points in 23 games since joining the Fuel has doubled his points in the same number of games in Norfolk. 

GETTING THE LEAD

Scoring the first goal of the game has given the Fuel a massive chance to win this season. When getting the first tally, the Fuel have put together a record of 16-7-2-1. Scoring the first goal of the game in the second period, the Fuel took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission. When the Fuel are leading heading into the third period, they have earned a record of 18-1-0-1. However, when trailing after two periods, the Fuel are 0-20-0-0.
