INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel announced today that they have agreed to terms with forward Alex Wideman for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
Wideman played a full season with the Fuel in 2016-17, leading the team in goals (22), assists (33) and overall points (55). He also attended the ECHL All-Star Game that season and was voted the team’s most valuable player. During the 2017-2018 season, the St. Louis native split his time between the Fuel and the Rockford IceHogs, landing fourth in scoring among Fuel forwards (48 points in 53 games) and becoming the first player in Fuel franchise history to reach 100 franchise points.
In 2021-22, Wideman played for the Bordeaux Bulldogs in the French league, Ligue Magnus. He led the team in scoring, averaging over a point per game with 45 in 43.Â
During the 2018-19 season, Wideman played for the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones, collecting 62 points in 63 games. Prior to that, the 5’7 forward played one year each in Germany (2019-20) and Denmark (2020-21), collecting 80 points in 87 games between the pair and winning a Danish championship.Â
Wideman has a long history of playing hockey in Indiana, dating back to his time with the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League (USHL) during the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.Â
He is currently tied with Spencer Watson for fifth place on the all-time Fuel assists list, with 65 career assists. He is also fifth all-time in points, goals, and points per season for the Fuel.

Wideman’s signing brings the Fuel’s 2022-23 roster total to 18, with 11 forwards (Bryan Lemos, Jan Mandat, Brenden Locke, Chris Van Os-Shaw, Chad Yetman, Nate Pionk, Spencer Watson, Andrew Bellant, Chase Lang and Alex Wideman), seven defensemen (Cam Bakker, Chris Cameron, Kirill Chaika, Josh McDougall, Tanner Butler, Matt Watson and Keoni Texeira) and one goalie (Connor O’Brien).Â
