INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel announced Tuesday that they have signed forward Matthew Barron to a standard player contract. Barron has played 19 games this season with the Evansville Thunderbolts of the SPHL where he tallied seven goals and eight assists.
The 6 '1 forward played one season at Ontario Tech University Ridgebacks where he had sixteen points and helped the team to the playoffs for the first time in five years while majoring in Criminology & Justice Studies. He was named an east division all-star during this season with the Ridgebacks. Barron was also named to OUA’s all-rookie team.
Prior to that, Barron played five seasons for the Yarmouth Mariners of the Maritime Hockey League (MJAHL) in his hometown of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. In his final season with the Mariners, he captained the team and led the team in points with 79. He is the franchise leader in points, assists, and games played for the Mariners.
During the 2018-19 season with Yarmouth, Barron won a MJAHL championship and was named MJAHL Playoffs MVP.
