MATCHUP: Indy Fuel @ Iowa Heartlanders

INDIANAPOLIS- The Fuel will play their first game of the new year in Iowa, hoping to win their first of three games in Iowa. Indy will look for a three game sweep to remain in first place before heading back to Indy to host the Heartlanders for a fourth game in a row.
LAST TIME OUT
The last time these two teams met was November 25, 2022 when the Fuel took down the Heartlanders in Indy 5-2. Shane Kuzmeski had a two-goal game that evening. Defenseman Chris Cameron also had a good night with a goal and an assist against Iowa. The Fuel have won both meetings between these teams so far this season as the Heartlanders currently reside in last place in the division and conference.
WILD WIDEMAN
Alex Wideman has consistently been one of the best players on the Fuel this season. He currently leads the team in points with 33. In just 29 games, that’s a point per game average of 1.14. He leads the team in power play assists with eight. With three power play goals of his own too, he has been pivotal to the Fuel’s power play unit.
STANDINGS STRATEGIES
The Fuel still currently sit two points ahead of Cincinnati in the Central division standings despite being two games ahead as well. Both of these teams will be in action this weekend as the Fuel stay in Iowa and Cincinnati takes on division rivals Wheeling and Toledo who pose a tougher threat than the Heartlanders.
