KALAMAZOO- The Fuel are in Kalamazoo this afternoon to take on the Wings for the final game of the regular season. The K-Wings come into this game in sixth place in the Central division and have not made the playoffs so this will be their final game of the year. The Fuel will look to win and keep their momentum going through to next week when they begin the first round of the playoffs against the Toledo Walleye.
LAST TIME OUT
The last time these two teams met was Sunday, April 2 when the K-Wings visited Indy for an afternoon matchup where Kalamazoo took the win 3-2 in overtime. Chad Yetman and Colin Bilek were the Fuel’s only goalscorers. There were 50 penalty minutes racked up between the two teams in that matchup as well.
STILL RECORD CHASING
With five goals in yesterday’s match against the Fort Wayne Komets, the Fuel are just one goal away from tying their single season high of 242 goals during the 2017-18 season. Alex Wideman is just one point from tying the franchise record of 176 points with the Fuel and captain Keoni Texeira is one goal away from the Fuel franchise record of most goals by a defenseman with the Fuel. If the stars align, all three of these could be achieved in one goal for the Fuel today adding to the historic season this team has already had.
IN THE BOX
While the K-Wings are a different opponent than the Komets that the Fuel have faced the last two days, a key to this match will be to control penalties for both teams. Through both games this weekend, the Fuel have collected 58 penalty minutes, while Fort Wayne collected 99. Special teams has become a huge part of this weekend for the Fuel and they will hope to neutralize that heading into the playoffs.
