INDIANAPOLIS - The Fuel will head to Kalamazoo to face the Wings for each team’s final game of 2023.
LAST TIME OUT
Just over a week ago, the Wings took care of business at home with a 4-3 win giving their fans a nice gift two days before Christmas. Three first-period goals had the Wings out in front early, two of them coming from Forward Ted Nichol.
These two teams have been known to get chippy and December 23 was no exception. There were 68 penalty minutes in the game, 50 of them coming in the third period.
MALONE’S MILESTONE
Seamus Malone has been with the Fuel since 2020 and will suit up for his 150th career game in a Fuel uniform. The Captain of the team this season has been a leader since he joined the team.
Malone will wrap up 2023 with 150 games in a Fuel uniform against the team he recorded his first ECHL points with back in the 2019-2020 season. The team he recorded that point against? The in-state rival of Indy, the Fort Wayne Komets, on February 7, 2020.
AROUND THE DIVISION
It’s the tightest division in the entire ECHL. Toledo clear and away leads the Western Central Division with 42 points, a decisive nine points in front of Fort Wayne in second place but the difference between second and last place is a tight race.
Fort Wayne has 33 points in second place and the Iowa Heartlanders are in last place with 27 points. The Fuel currently sit all alone in fifth place with 28 points and a win tonight could propel them to third in the division with losses by Cincinnati and Wheeling.
