INDIANAPOLIS - The Fuel will finish two straight tonight in Wheeling against the Nailers after coming out on top 5-2 last night.
LAST TIME OUT
The leading goal scorers returned for the Fuel and they showed up in every way possible.
Jon Martin was activated from injured reserve and notched his first-ever ECHL hat trick while Kyle Maksimovich returned from Rockford and notched his eleventh goal of the season. Tack on the opening goal from Darby Llewellyn and the deficit was too big to overcome for Wheeling and the Fuel took their fourth straight win on the road 5-2.
MAKING HISTORY
Before last night, Jon Martin had not seen game action since Teddy Bear Toss Night against the Kalamazoo Wings on December 16. It had been a while since the leading goal scorer for the Fuel but he made sure his return was as impactful as it could be.
He put the biscuit in the basket at full strength, on a power play, and an empty netter to officially put the game out of reach for Wheeling.
Martin will look to continue his hot streak tonight and give the Fuel a clean two-game sweep of the Nailers.
AROUND THE DIVISION
The Toledo Walleye clear and away leads the Western Central Division with 51 points, a decisive 12 points in front of Fort Wayne in second place but the difference between third and last place is a tight race.
The Fuel have 36 points in third place and the Iowa Heartlanders are in last place with 31 points. Three wins or losses only separates third and last place, the tightest division in all of the ECHL.
