INDIANAPOLIS - Unlike many her age, Junior Fuel player Nora Levy started playing hockey at 11 years old. Years ago, she attended a “Try Hockey For Free” event and had so much fun, but before that, she had only skated about two times.
“It was great, the atmosphere [at the event] was amazing,” Levy said. “The people were just so positive and encouraging … when I was out there, [people came up to me and said] ‘you’re pretty good, what team do you play for?’ I was like this is my first time playing [hockey].”
She currently plays on the Indiana Elite 19U team and also softball for an area team as well. Her favorite of the two is “whatever is in season.” She urges everyone no matter what sport they do to “enjoy the sport and enjoy everything that you do.” Especially when playing hockey with a team, “go into each game and practice with the mentality that you’re going to give it your all because it makes it so much more fun and enjoyable.”
Recently, she helped organize a “Try Hockey for Free” event, giving back to what started her love for hockey. Her teammates helped as over thirty kids came to the event. She was overjoyed to give back and see so many girls try their hand at hockey.

Carousel“I just want other kids to be able to get the chance to really fall in love with the sport [of hockey],” Levy said.
Levy takes online classes and hopes to pursue a career in economics to go to law school eventually. “I really love economics and I just love being able to develop arguments and share them with other people,” Levy said.
Her favorite NHL team is the Florida Panthers, she followed them to their 2024 Stanley Cup run. Levy is a big fan of goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.
While pushing for more female hockey players, she has this message for girls with an interest in hockey. “Don’t be scared to try it,” Levy said. “As somebody who didn't start as early as other people. It definitely can be the sport that you might be scared to jump into. There are a lot of people who started shaking when they were like three or four.”
“Don’t let that stop you from jumping in, even if it seems too late or there’s a lot of guys that play. Just figure out what you love to do, and then just do it.”
