FISHERS- The Fuel announced on Tuesday that they have hired Stephon Thorne as the assistant coach for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
Thorne, 35, spent the last two seasons coaching in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the Brampton Steelheads (known as the Mississauga Steelheads during his first season in 2024). As the head coach both seasons, Thorne led the Steelheads to two second-place finishes in the Central division.
In 2024, Thorne helped the Stoney Creek Tigers of the Allan Cup Hockey league to an ACH championship, winning the J. Ross Robertson Cup.
During his playing career, Thorne was a forward who spent five seasons in the ECHL playing for the Fort Wayne Komets, Toledo Walleye, and Brampton Beast.
He became a Central Hockey League (CHL) champion with the Fort Wayne Komets in 2011 after tallying 32 points in 64 games and six points in 18 playoff games.
The Mississauga native played three seasons for the Brampton Battalion of the OHL from 2008 to 2011. He was named captain in his final season. He helped the Battalion to the playoffs all three seasons.
