INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL Affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs, announced Tuesday that they have signed forward J.T. Barnett to a 2017-18 ECHL contract. In addition, the Fuel have released defenseman Travis Armstrong.
Barnett, 25, appeared in 30 games last season split between Russia and Sweden, including four games in the KHL. In three seasons in the ECHL, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward recorded 52 points (17g, 35a) during stints with the Atlanta Gladiators, Stockton Thunder, Orlando Solar Bears and the Ontario Reign. A Scottsdale, Ariz. native, Barnett spent five seasons in the WHL accumulating 131 points (57g, 74a) over 259 games.
Armstrong, 27, did not dress for the Fuel in their opening weekend trip to Wichita. The third-year defenseman from Smiths Falls, Ontario has tallied one goal and four assists over 40 career ECHL games spent with six teams, including 16 with Indy last spring.
