Fuel fall one goal short in Wednesday battle with Kalamazoo

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel sustained their third consecutive defeat and their second in a row on home ice Wednesday night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum, falling one goal short in a 2-1 setback against the Central Division rivals Kalamazoo Wings.

The Fuel fell behind early in the opening period when Justin Taylor connected on a Kalamazoo power play goal at the 1:27 mark after the Fuel's Reed Seckel received a minor penalty for roughing on the game's opening face-off.

Kalamazoo added to its lead early in the second period when MacKenzie Stewart scored the ultimate game winning goal at the 1:53 juncture, producing an insurmountable Wings advantage of 2-0.

Indy left wing Alex Wideman did shave the deficit in half when he connected on his 7th goal of the campaign in the latter stages of the middle stanza at 14:51.

Kalamazoo goaltender Mike Garteig protected his club's 1-goal lead for the balance of the night, turning aside 37-shots in earning the game's #1 Star. His counterpart, Fuel goalkeeper Etienne Marcoux, achieved second star honors with a 43-saves performance. Kalamazoo outshot the Fuel, 45-38 as Indy saw its overall record fall to 25(8-14-3) 19-points and 14(3-9-2) against their own Western Conference Central Division.

Having dropped 4 of their last 5-starts, the Fuel will close their current three-games' home stand as well as their pre-Christmas schedule Saturday night at 7:35 pm at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum where they will play host to the Cincinnati Cyclones.
