INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs, announced Tuesday that goaltender Étienne Marcoux has signed a professional tryout contract (PTO) with the AHL's Springfield Thunderbirds. In a separate transaction, the NHL's Washington Capitals reassigned goaltender Adam Carlson from the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays to the Fuel.
Marcoux, 24, has compiled a 13-9-1 record in 25 appearances this season with Indy, alongside a 2.96 goals against average and a .920 save percentage. The 2018 ECHL All-Star was named the league's Rookie of the Month in December, while his 13 wins this season ranks third among all league rookie goaltenders. A native of Laval, Quebec, Marcoux has started 14 of Indy's last 15 games since Dec. 27, leading the Fuel to a 9-5 record during that span.
In 34 career ECHL games played with Indy, Utah and Rapid City, Marcoux owns a 15-14-2 record, a .918 save percentage and a 3.02 goals against average. Prior to turning pro, Marcoux spent two seasons with the University of New Brunswick, posting a 31-4-0 with a 1.86 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage in 36 games. The AHL call-up is the second of the season for the rookie netminder, though he did not appear in a game during a one-week stint with the Laval Rocket back in November.
Carlson, 23, began the 2017-18 season with the AHL's Hershey Bears, posting a 2-2-0 record in four appearances, along with a 3.03 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. The 6-foot-3, 174-pound netminder has compiled a 10-12-3 record in 29 games with South Carolina over the last two seasons, in addition to a 2.94 goals against average and a .895 save percentage.
A native of Edina, Minn., Carlson was signed as a free agent by the Capitals prior to the 2016-17 season, following his freshman season with Mercyhurst College (NCAA). With the Lakers, Carlson owned a 7-7-3 record with a 2.85 goals against average and a .919 save percentage.
The Fuel conclude a four-game road swing Friday when they take on the Wheeling Nailers at WesBanco Arena, before returning to Indiana Farmers Coliseum Saturday to host the Toledo Walleye.
