INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs, announced Thursday that they have signed signed defenseman James Roll to an amateur tryout contract (ATO). Additionally, the Fuel have released defenseman Brendan Mitchell.
Roll, 24, recorded one goal and six assists in 27 games with Niagara University this season. Previously, the 6-foot-2, 201-pound defenseman spent three years at Lake Superior State University, finishing his NCAA career with four goals and 24 assists over 108 total games split between the Purple Eagles and the Lakers. A native of West Seneca, N.Y., Roll logged 55 games with the United States Hockey League's Des Moines Buccaneers in 2012-13, picking up 12 points and 80 penalty minutes.
The Fuel begin another crucial three-game weekend Friday as they host the Cincinnati Cyclones for Nickelodeon Night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Both teams will wear SpongeBob Squarepants-themed uniforms, with characters from the hit show set to be in attendance as well.
