INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs, announced Friday that the AHL's Manitoba Moose have reassigned goaltender Colton Phinney from the ECHL's Jacksonville IceMen to the Fuel. Additionally, the Fuel have placed goaltender Jonah Imoo on injured reserve.
Phinney, 24, has a 4-8-2-2 record, a 3.25 goals against average and an .886 save percentage in 21 appearances with the IceMen this season. Signing his first professional contract with the Moose last July, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound netminder earned his first AHL call-up on Jan. 26, though he did not see game action during the brief stint in Manitoba. A native of Chatham, N.J., Phinney picked up his first pro win with a 28-save performance on Nov. 22, helping the IceMen to a 4-3 overtime win over the Orlando Solar Bears.
A product of Princeton University, Phinney graduated last spring with more saves (3,440), games played (110) and minutes (6411:41) of any goaltender in program history. Over his four year NCAA career, Phinney compiled a 27-74-9 record with two shutouts, a 3.10 goals against average, and a .912 save percentage.
The Fuel begin another crucial three-game weekend Friday as they host the Cincinnati Cyclones for Nickelodeon Night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Both teams will wear SpongeBob Squarepants-themed uniforms, with characters from the hit show set to be in attendance as well.
