Coming off of back to back wins during their first weekend of the season, Indy will only play one game this weekend, taking on the Kansas City Mavericks on Friday night. After a shootout win over Kansas City last Friday, the Fuel will be looking to add to their win column as well as keeping the Mavericks winless.

LAST TIME OUT
After a nine-month offseason, the Indy Fuel hosted their home opener against the Mavericks on Friday night in front of a socially distanced, sold-out crowd. In their seventh opening night in franchise history, the Fuel waited until the final seconds to tie the game when Derek Barach buried a rebound from Sean Bonar. After a seven-minute overtime period, the two teams would still be tied at three each, sending the game to a shootout. Indy’s Peter Krieger would be the only one to score in the shootout, earning the Fuel a 4-3 victory.
PRO DEBUT
Assigned to the Fuel on Monday, forwards DJ Busdeker and Riley McKay will make their professional debuts on Friday night. Busdeker skated in 62 games for the Saginaw Spirit (OHL) last season registering 22 goals, 35 assists while McKay joins the Fuel after he played 62 games for the Western Hockey League’s Saskatoon Blades last season where he earned 19 goals and 19 assists. Both forwards will be in the lineup on Friday night.
THE BROLLDOZER
Following the first two games of the season, David Broll leads the Fuel in points. Scoring a goal in each of the first two games as well as earning an assist against Kansas City, Broll will be looking to continue his scoring pace on Friday night. Scoring a power-play goal last weekend, the 6-foot-2, 236-pound forward currently holds the Fuel’s only power-play goal.
EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED
With three players added to the Commissioners Exempt List on Thursday night, the Mavericks will be without goaltender Sean Bonar and forward Lane Scheidl. Playing during the COVID-19 pandemic will cause problems like this for every team throughout the 2020-21 season. “We can’t control what they have,” said Doug Christiansen. “We have to make sure that we do our job to make sure we have the most options available come Friday night. But I don’t think it changes anything. They’re a really good team, they are going to be a really good team again.” Indy will be without forward Derek Barach on Friday after he was added to the Commissioners Exempt List on Thursday.
