LAST TIME OUT
Playing the second-ever contest between the two franchises, the Fuel traveled to Iowa for the first time ever. Even after an electric second period in which Indy notched three goals, the Iowa Heartlanders proved to be the dominant team with a 5-3 win in the Fuel’s first-ever visit to Xtream Arena.
WONDERFUL WATTY
Entering Sunday’s contest against Iowa, Spencer Watson has two goals in his last three games. The fourth-year pro has tallied 14 goals this season, putting him in first place on the team scoring list. No stranger to putting pucks on net, Watson leads the team in shots this season, averaging 4.2 shots per game.
NEW FACES
Acquiring Brycen Martin from the Maine Mariners on Thursday, Head Coach Doug Christiansen added more depth to his defensive lineup. With the additions of Craig Wyszomirski and Martin, as well as receiving Jacob LeGuerrier from Rockford, the Fuel defense will have a drastically different look during the back half of the season.
TREMENDOUS TRIO
The line of Jan Mandat, Spencer Watson and Jared Thomas has averaged a goal per game throughout their last three contests. The trio combined for two goals and five assists in Indy’s 4-0 win over the Admirals on Tuesday night. Although only playing eight games this season, Mandat is second on the team in scoring chances per game, earning 1.25 chances per game. In their last three games, Mandat, Watson and Thomas have combined for three goals and five assists.
HOME COOKING
Starting Sunday afternoon, the Fuel will play four out of their next six games on home ice. Although falling in a shootout to Norfolk on Wednesday, Indy has earned points in five straight games at home. With seven home games during the month of January, the Fuel will be expecting to improve on their 7-4-0-1 home record.
