Playing the first of three straight games on the weekend, the Fuel hosted the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday, January 21. After a scoreless first period, Indy jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 2nd period thanks to goals from Jared Thomas and Jacob LeGuerrier. Indy would put the game away when Jan Mandat put home the empty netter for his eighth goal of the season.

Scoring Indy’s lone goal on Friday night, forward Karl El-Mir has eight points in his last seven games. Acquired by the Fuel in mid-December, El-Mir has skated in 15 games for the Fuel, earning seven goals and six assists.

The Fuel head into Saturday night with a 15-1-0-1 record when leading after two periods. Outscoring their opponents 99-88 in the second and third periods, the Fuel’s ability to close out games has been a key to their success in the 2022 calendar year.
BRAVING THE STORM
Entering Saturday night, the Fuel have a 4-2-0-1 record when facing the Cincinnati Cyclones. Skating in all seven of the matchups between the two teams, Mike Lee has 10 assists against the Cyclones, five of them coming on the power play. Scoring Indy’s first goal of the game last Saturday, Spencer Watson is tied with Matt Rupert for 2nd place on the Indy Fuel’s all-time goals list. In his third full season with the Fuel, Watson has scored a total of 62 goals in 132 games, putting him 18 behind Josh Shalla for 1st place. With three points on the weekend, Watson also put himself in third place on the Fuel’s all-time points list with 115 points.
