The last time the two teams met, the Indy Fuel made their way to Huntington Center on Sunday, February 6. The Fuel would score three unanswered goals on Sunday and go on to claim a 3-0 victory, their first over the Walleye in the 2021-22 season. This win also earned goaltender Michael Lackey his second shutout of the season and snapped the Fuel’s six-game losing streak.
CAPTAIN CLUTCH
Scoring the overtime winner on Friday night in Wheeling, Seamus Malone scored his fifth game winning goal of the season. Five of Malone’s 19 goals this season have been credited as the game winning goal. Tied with Darien Craighead for the team lead, Malone has scored the team’s last two overtime goals.
CHASING HISTORY
Scoring one of Indy’s four goals on Friday night, Spencer Watson is six goals away from tying the Fuel franchise recorded for all-time goals. Having scored 74 goals in 160 games in a Fuel uniform, Watson is chasing former Fuel forward Josh Shalla for first place. With 29 goals this season, Watson is also two goals away from tying the franchise record for goals in a season, held by himself.
GREAT GILLY
Registering his 13th win of the season on Friday, Mitch Gillam has wins in his last three starts. Recently returned from Indy’s AHL affiliate Rockford IceHogs, Gillam earned his first AHL shutout in his first AHL start.
