INDIANAPOLIS- The Indy Fuel hosted the Cincinnati Cyclones for the first match of a two game preseason set on Friday evening. Ultimately, the Fuel fell to the Cyclones 4-1, despite outshooting them 37-21.
The Fuel held possession early in the first period, but were unable to capitalize, even with a power play opportunity six minutes into the game as Arvin Atwal was sent to the box for interference. The Cyclones struck first with a goal by Cody Caron at 15:45 of the first period. Indy outshot Cincinnati 15-5 in that period, but time expired and the Cyclones were up 1-0.Â
Two minutes into the second period, Indy’s Riley McKay and Cincinnati’s Sean Allen were handed five minute major penalties for fighting. The Cyclones struck again with a goal from Maurizio Colella making it 2-0. Halfway through the middle frame, Indy pulled goaltender Mitchell Weeks, replacing him with Conor O’Brien. McKay, assisted by Keoni Texeira and Spencer Watson, capitalized on a power play opportunity with less than five minutes remaining in the second period, finally getting the Fuel on the board.Â
The third period brought two more Cincinnati goals. An unassisted goal from Lee Lapid and an empty net goal from Colella with less than three minutes left sealed Indy’s 4-1 loss.Â
The Fuel host the Cyclones at Indiana Farmers Coliseum for one more preseason game tomorrow, Saturday, October 15 at 5 p.m.Â
