FISHERS- The Fuel will kick off the 2025-26 season on Friday as they host the Fort Wayne Komets for Opening Night. After a 2-1 win over the Bloomington Bison in preseason, they will look to keep the momentum rolling against their division rival.
NOT-SO-FRIENDLY FACES
The Fuel and the Komets know each other well, being divisional opponents and in-state rivals since the Fuel joined the ECHL in 2014. Since then, the Fuel’s record against them is 51-51-11-8, proving how competitive and evenly matched they are. Indy will see some familiar faces in Anthony Petruzzelli and Zach Jordan who both played for Indy during the 2023-24 season. Additionally, Indy’s new assistant coach Stephon Thorne, played for the Komets from 2011 to 2013 and again in 2017.
NEW FUEL, SAME DUEL
While the rivalry runs deep between these two teams, there are a lot of new faces on Indy. With just ten players returning from last year’s Fuel roster, there will be some fresh faces for the Komets to meet. Meanwhile, their roster features a lot of returning players, including Kirill Tyutyayev and Jalen Smereck who the Fuel know well from playing in the Central division for years.
OPENING NIGHT LORE
The Fuel head into this game with a 3-4 record on Opening Night when playing at home, and 1-3 against the Komets among those games. They will look to flip the script this season and claim a win to kick off the year.
