KALAMAZOO- The Fuel will kick off their weekend in Kalamazoo, taking on the K-Wings before hosting them in Fishers on Saturday night. After a regulation win over the Fort Wayne Komets on Wednesday, Indy has distanced themselves from the K-Wings in the Central division standings.
LAST TIME OUT
The last time these two teams met was January 4 when the Fuel visited Kalamazoo and defeated them 3-2 in a 12-round shootout, the longest in Fuel history. Zach Okabe and former Fuel forward Colin Bilek put the K-Wings up 2-0 before Matt Petgrave and Terry Broadhurst scored to tie it up, forcing overtime and then a shootout where Sahil Panwar scored first and Nick Grima scored eleven rounds later to win the game for Indy.
ALL STAR’S SAKE
This two-game set against Kalamazoo is the last weekend of play before the All-Star Game hosted by the Allen Americans. Indy’s representative Kevin Lombardi has been in Rockford with the Fuel’s AHL affiliate since December 13 after he scored 18 points in 15 games for the Fuel. He will be joined in Allen by Darrin Flinchem, longtime equipment manager for Indy, who has earned his second All-Star Game appearance as an EQ. Zach Okabe, Kalamazoo’s points per game leader, will represent the K-Wings at the All-Star Game.
