FORT WAYNE- The Indy Fuel spent Wednesday evening in Fort Wayne, taking on the Komets in a make-up game matchup from earlier this season. Despite taking a late lead in the third period, the Fuel fell 4-3 in overtime to the Komets.
1ST PERIOD
Jesse Tucker took the game’s first penalty for tripping at 2:17. This gave the Komets an early power play chance which they took advantage of. Austin Magera scored just nine seconds into the power play to put Fort Wayne up 1-0 early.
A few minutes later, Indy’s Cody Laskosky tied the game with a goal from right in front at 7:25. Marcus Joughin and Chris Cameron claimed the assists on that goal.
Fort Wayne’s Trevor Janicke took an interference penalty at 9:57, giving the Fuel a power play chance. The Komets killed it off.
The period ended quickly after with no more goals or penalties. After one, the Fuel were outshooting the Komets, 9-6.
2ND PERIOD
Indy’s Jordan Martin took a holding call at 7:02 to put the Komets on the power play for the second time. Fort Wayne killed it off.
Tucker took his second penalty of the game at 12:45 after being called for cross checking. Once again, they capitalized on it with a goal by William Dufour at 13:32. This made it 2-1 in favor of the Komets.
It was Dufour who took a tripping penalty next, at 16:53. This resulted in a power play for Indy, but they could not record a shot during the two-minute advantage.
After killing off that penalty, the period ended with the Fuel outshooting Fort Wayne, 16-14 but down two goals to one.
3RD PERIOD
Kirill Tyutyayev took a hooking penalty at 4:07 of the third period, putting Indy on the power play again. They were able to capitalize on it with a goal by Tyler Weiss at 4:30. Marcus Joughin picked up his second assist of the night alongside Cody Laskosky with his second point.
Tyler Paquette scored to make it 3-2 at 8:41. Kyle Aucoin earned his first professional point on the lone assist.
At 12:27, Jordan Martin and Fort Wayne’s Matt Copponi exchanged some blows before both being called for roughing for two minutes.
Tyutyayev scored next for the Komets to tie the game at 15:03.
That was the last thing to hit the game sheet before time expired on regulation. Tied 3-3, the Fuel and Komets each earned a point in the standings but played on into overtime.
OVERTIME
At 2:23 in OT, Jadon Joseph took a hooking penalty that resulted in a 4-on-3 power play chance for Fort Wayne.
Dufour scored his second goal of the game on the power play to win the game for the Komets.
