INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs, announced Thursday that they have signed defenseman Frank Schumacher ahead of the team's three game weekend. The Fuel visit the Quad City Mallards Friday night before returning for a Satuday-Sunday doubleheader at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
Schumacher, 24, arrives in Indy after tallying a goal and three assists in four games for the Southern Professional Hockey League's (SPHL) Evansville Thunderbolts. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound defenseman from Brighton, Mich. brings 19 games of ECHL experience, picking up one assist during a nine-game stint with the Fort Wayne Komets in 2016-17. A fourth-year professional, Schumacher has recorded 23 points (6g, 17a) in 82 SPHL games with the Thunderbolts, Knoxville Ice Bears and Huntsville Havoc, in addition to 27 points (8g, 19a) in 40 Federal Hockey League contests from 2014-16.
