ABOUT THE HOCKEY:
INDIANAPOLIS- The Indy Fuel host the Wheeling Nailers for their third matchup this season on Wednesday night. This is the second Wintertainment game of the year for the Fuel, Ugly Sweater night. Wheeling and Indy have split the series so far this season, each taking a game a piece.
LAST TIME OUT
These two teams last met on November 23 where the Nailers defeated the Fuel, 4-2 in Wheeling. Chase Lang and Bryan Lemos both tallied their 50th career ECHL goals in this game but it was not enough to overcome the scoring power of the Nailers. Previously, the Fuel defeated the Nailers 6-1 at home on Sunday, November 20.
PENALTY KILL STRUGGLES
In their last game against the Toledo Walleye, all four goals the Fuel gave up were power play goals. This matches their season high of giving up four power play goals in one game. The Fuel’s penalty kill is ranked 26th in the league and has been a bit of a struggle for Indy, but if they can neutralize opposing teams while they have a man-advantage, the Fuel can be unstoppable.
WELCOME BACK WATSON
Defenseman Cliff Watson was reassigned to the Fuel on Monday. In just two games with the Fuel earlier in the season, Watson tallied two goals and three assists to help the team take wins over Toledo and Wheeling. Watson will face off with Wheeling again tonight in an attempt to keep his point streak alive with the Fuel this season.
