INDIANAPOLIS - The American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs announced Wednesday that they have recalled goaltender Matt Tomkins from the ECHL's Indy Fuel. Tomkins becomes the third Fuel goaltender to receive an AHL call-up this season, along with Collin Delia (Rockford) and Étienne Marcoux (Laval).
Tomkins, 23, has posted a 4-3-0 record in eight appearances this season, alongside a 2.73 goals against average and a .931 save percentage. The rookie netminder from Sherwood Park, Alberta was named the CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week from Dec. 4 to 10, after stopping 88 of 91 shots over a pair of Indy victories.
Prior to turning pro, Tomkins finished a four-year collegiate career at Ohio State University. The seventh-round selection of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft (No. 199 overall) compiled a 28-26-7 record in 67 career NCAA games for the Buckeyes, along with three shutouts, a 3.03 goals against average and a .898 save percentage.
